Welcome to the May 2015 RuSciTech Newsletter!

In March representatives of the RuSciTech Coordinating Council met in Oxford (UK) with representatives from the Project Office of the Russian 5-100 Programme (aimed at improving international competitiveness of leading Russian universities), where a number of areas of collaboration were discussed.

Russian-speaking scientists based in Germany met with representatives of the Skolkovo Foundation and the Skoltech University in Berlin on 17 April 2015.

Prof. Sergey Ketov (member of the RuSciTech Coordinating Council) provides assistance in building relationships between leading universities in Tomsk with partners in Japan.
 
A competition for innovations in education in Russia.

The National Technology Initiative (NTI) is being prepared in Russia.

Job & Project Opportunities

The National Research University ITMO (Saint-Petersburg) - a winner (4th)  in the 5-100 Program - is keen to internationalise by working on research projects with similar universities in the world, and also recruit students from other countries to study on their  Masters Programs in Technology and Science taught in English. ITMO has a close link to the European Commission and Russian Trade Delegation in Europe, since it has the first European Office in Brussels established by a Russian University. ITMO’s top-performing research is in Photonics (Optics), IT and Engineering.
ITMO are looking to recruit students from abroad, particularly from India, for the following joint masters degrees:

  • Supercomputer Technologies in Interdisciplinary Research double degree with Amsterdam University
  • Big Data and Extreme Computing - double degree with Amsterdam University
  • Urban Supercomputing - double degree with the University of Amsterdam
  • Optical Design - double degree with Warsaw University of Technology
  • Metamaterials (components - physics and Engineering)
  • Optics, Photonics and Opto-informatics - double degree with University of Rochester USA.

New faculty vacancies at Skoltech are available on their new web site:

A Russian company Fundamental Systems of Analysis (FSA) LLC (Astrakhan) offers cooperation to participate in the Horizon-2020 call: FCT 2015, BES 2015.
FSA develops specialised software for forensic science and study of the crime scene (forensic science and crime scene investigation), as well as technologies and means of effective e-learning and training for law enforcement officers (interactive simulators for forensic activities).
As a partner of the project, FSA is offering its experience in the development of specialised software and applications based on Intel® RealSense™ (3D camera, active 3D scanning) technologies:
- detecting faces, and recognising expressions;
- track's object (e.g. cars, car plates, people) frame to frame and recognise particular objects from a database;
- 3D scanning of objects, apartments;
- overlay 3D information on top of the images (using Augmented Reality).
